Action for Happiness is a movement that brings people together to build a happier and more caring society. They share a vision of a happier world where people flourish and fewer people have mental health problems.

In April 2011, three leading experts in the field of happiness, Lord Layard, Sir Anthony Seldon and Geoff Mulgan launched Action for Happiness with the intention to create a happier society, where people are able to flourish and lead fulfilling lives. One of the visions of Action for Happiness is for people to focus less on what they can get for themselves and more on increasing the happiness of others.

The fundamental values of Action for Happiness are that science and experience shows us that we can positively affect our happiness and the happiness around us. The need to focus on and prioritise the things that cause happiness and helping other people is essential for a happier society.

Action for happiness is aimed at people interested in happiness who want to learn practical skills based on the latest and most prominent happiness research. These skills can be applied in both personal and professional lives, as well as in communities. Many people set up groups in their local area, so they can work together to increase the happiness levels in the community.

One of the key concepts of Action for Happiness is the 10 Keys To Happier Living, jointly developed by Vanessa King and the Action for Happiness team.  The 10 Keys are based on the acronym GREAT DREAM, which stands for Giving, Relating, Exercising, Awareness, Trying out, Direction, Resilience, Emotions, Acceptance and Meaning.

Action for Happiness asks people “to be loving, compassionate and true, a giver of joy and a healer of sorrow, creator of a new tomorrow. Making the happiness of all your wish, your compass and your goal.”

His Holiness The Dalai Lama is the patron of Action for Happiness.

Action for Happiness encourages each of us to live more compassionately and put the happiness of others at the centre of our lives. This is the path to lasting peace and happiness.
