Understanding and using our strengths is potentially our greatest area for personal growth.  Recognising and using our strengths is  a significant and effective way that allows individuals, organisations, education, governments and communities to flourish.

Our engaging one-day Positive Psychology Learning Strengths course, is accredited by Buckinghamshire New University and focuses on the scientific research into strengths from the field of positive psychology, and provides delegates with practical ways to use  some of the powerful and effective evidence-based tools that have been developed from the studies.

Play to your strengths

You made have heard the phrase ‘play to your strengths’, but do you know when, where and how to start?  Using your strengths provides you with the opportunity to perform at your best and fulfil your potential, but many people are unaware of what their strengths are although they have less problem identifying their perceived weaknesses! !  Research carried out in 2001 showed that only 30% of people could name what their strengths are and research in 2014, carried out by our Associate, Michelle McQuaid showed that  only 50% of people are able to use their strengths each day at work. Our Positive Psychology Learning Strengths course helps you to focus on your strengths as well as helping you to spot the strengths of other, so that you can play to your strengths more often.

Co-Directors of Positive Psychology Learning

This course is run by Dan Collinson and Lesley Lyle, two alumni Associate Lecturers on the MSC in Applied Positive Psychology course at Buckinghamshire New University, where leading strengths researcher, Dr Alex Linley, is the visiting Professor. Lesley and Dan have an association with VIA, the foremost scientific survey on human strengths.

Lesley and Dan run Positive Psychology courses, consultancy and coaching within the UK and Internationally. Working with large organisations and  Government departments, they are highly regarded in both the academic and professional world of Positive Psychology. They are co-founders of The Positive Psychology People website, a non-profit organisation set up to help people around the world access free information about wellbeing that currently has an audience of over 30,000 people.

On completion of this Strengths course you will receive a Certificate from Positive Psychology Learning and Bucks New University and be eligible for a CPD certificate of attendance.

Our Venues

We run our courses in prime locations and venues, so you can relax and feel comfortable in your learning environment.  Our courses are currently run in two locations and we also offer to run them in-house for organisations and groups.

Missenden Abbey

Historic Missenden Abbey is owned by Buckinghamshire (Bucks) New University and is home to our MSc Applied Positive Psychology Course (MAPP).  This beautiful building has a history of more than 800 years, founded in 1133 the former monastery is now a conference centre and hotel.

Whilst on your course you will be treated to sumptuous food and refreshments including their award winning homemade chocolate brownies and a 3-course hot or cold lunch in the restaurant. Careys Manor, Brockenhurst is a magnificent Manor House situated in the New Forest National Park. This 4 star hotel and award winning spa, featured in The Telegraph’s best hotels in Hampshire. Our delegates love this location and frequently arrange to extend their stay a few days longer to enjoy this popular tourist location that is close to forest, coast and parkland.
